Day 11 September - National Forest Martyrs Day
The date 11 September has
historical significance and due to this, the date was chosen as National Forest
Martyrs Day. In 1730, on this day, over 360 people of the Bishnoi tribe led by
Amrita Devi, objected to the felling of trees. Due to their protest of saving
the trees, they were killed in Khejarli, Rajasthan on the orders of the
king.
